On Saturday January 26, 2008 the Youth Group took a day ski trip to Chestnut Mountain in Galena, Illinois. They met with families from our church and stayed at the resort over the weekend. After being outside all morning, ski lessons and trying our luck on the slopes, the youngsters worked up a good appetite. The afternoon on the slopes went by very fast. On the way home everyone was tired, but happy. The trip ended without any major problems.

On Sunday January 7, 2008 the children of Polish Language School presented a Nativity play?Jase?ka? in Polish. In the play the children showed us the story of the birth of our Savior. They showed us that not only the wise man from the East came to pay homage to the Baby Jesus. The children?s story came to life with Snow White, Cinderella. Thumbelina, Red Riding Hood and many others visiting the Baby in the manger. After the play Father Peter thanked the staff, parents and children for the wonderful performance and work over the year. We finished he afternoon with refreshments.

On Saturday December 29, after the 4:30 p.m. mass, the Youth Group invited everyone to the School Hall for their annual Christmas play. This year the youth delighted its audience with the presentation of the classic Christmas story, yet in a completely new version. After the performance PNA Lodge 1224 had their annual Christmas party and treated everyone to refreshments.

On December 31 our church organized its 4th annual New Years Eve Banquet. Despite the winter storm over 100 people attended this event to welcome in the New Year in the warm family atmosphere. A few minutes before midnight Father Peter led a prayer and song; he also wished everyone blessed 2008. Father also thanked the people involved in organizing this event. Everyone had good time and danced the night away to the music of Efekt from Chicago.

On Christmas Day during 11:00 a.m. mass the children of the Polish Language School dressed in traditional Polish costumes and took part in the entrance procession. They also preformed the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" to our congregation.

On the eve of Christmas Day our parishioners participated in the traditional bilingual Mass at midnight. At the beginning of mass while the choir sang beautiful Christmas carols in both Polish and English, Father Peter carried the statue of Baby Jesus as a symbol of new beginnings. He placed Him in the crib of the manger located at the front altar, which was prepared by Brother Jan.

In June we began the Renovation Project in our church. After replacing the church flooring, we began work on the rebuilding side altars to fit the Divine Mercy portrait and the newly donated beautiful Icon of the Black Madonna of Cz?stochowa. The work was completed the second week of December. On Sunday, December 18th during a very special mass in the presence of the donors and the parishioners, Father Peter blessed the altars. The funding for the Black Madonna Altar and the Icon was provided by Marie Hart and her family. The Divine Mercy Altar was donated by PNA Lodge 1224 in Rockford. On December 12th the ladies of the Society of Mercy met for their annual Wigilia. As Christmas Carols played the ladies broke the traditional Oplatek and ate the potluck dinner-meatless- of course. The ladies thanked Father Peter for his spiritual guidance to the Society.

Our Parish participated in the Diocesan "Women of the Year" program again this year. The parish committee met with Father Peter to choose the Woman of the Year. Bernadette Furon will represent our church this year at the Women of the Year Banquet and receive the distinguished award. On Sunday, December 9, 2007 Father Peter introduced to our congregation the newly elected Woman of the Year at each mass. He thanked Bernadette for her service to the Parish and presented her with a bouquet of roses.

St. Nick came to visit the children on Sunday, December 9th at both the 9:00 a.m. and the 11:00 a.m. mass. He told them the story of St. Nicholas the Bishop. At the Polish mass the children portrayed characters from the bible by dressing up and acting as them.

During the first weekend of December the Women's League transformed Kolbe Hall into a great Christmas Bazaar. Besides all of the Christmas decorations and arrangements, the ladies also had a bake sale filled with homemade and delicious baked goodies. Shoppers could spend a few minutes or few hours browsing, shopping or just simply having hot cider, coffee or cookies in the wonderfully Christmas atmosphere. The big attraction again this year was the raffle baskets that were prepared by Father Peter and Brother Jan. All profits from this sale will be used for improvements in our parish

The Independence of Poland
To celebrate the anniversary of Polish Independence Day our Polish Community came together to thank God for freedom during the celebration of the Holy Mass on Sunday November 12, 2007. After the Mass a history lesson, in the form of an emotional artistic program, was presented to the congregation by the teachers from Polish Language School, Fr. Peter, and Brother Jan. Everyone rose as we finished the program with the Polish National Anthem. After the official part of the celebration Fr. Peter invited everyone to Kolbe Hall for delicious Grochowka and Kielbasa which was prepared by a group of parishioners under the direction of Stan & Grace Golab. Over 140 people attended the home cooked soup and enjoyed the company of their fellow parishioners.

Holy Name Bond Dinner
The Annual Holy Name Bond Dinner was held on Sunday November 4, 2007. The evening started with a social hour in the school hall. Then everyone had dinner in Kolbe Hall. Over 220 gentlemen from around the Rockford area joined this celebration as they enjoyed good food, drinks, and camaraderie. During the Banquet, Fr. Peter drew the names of lucky winners for the raffle held on this occasion.

Religious Song Competition
A group of 10 children "OREMUS" represented our parish in the Polish Religious Song Competition at the Copernicus Center in Chicago on Sunday October 28th. They performed group songs, and one of the children sang a solo of a Lydia Kozlowski song. We are very proud of our youngsters for their dedication and courage in representing our parish in such a unique way.

Spaghetti Dinner
On Sunday October 28, 2007, the St. Stanislaus Women's League sponsored their 8th Annual Spaghetti Dinner. Our ladies worked very hard to make sure that the spaghetti sauce would please any pallet. Many people enjoyed the home cooked spaghetti as well as great company.

Halloween

On Saturday October 27th, the Polish Language School sponsored a Halloween party in the School Hall for all the children in the parish. Little princesses, rock stars, ninjas, Spider and Super-men, goblins, power rangers, and yes, even witches played many games. The children dressed up as mummies, made crafts, and ate hot dogs and cookies. Everyone had a great time.

Transitus
The annual celebration of the Transitus- the passing from life to death of St. Francis of Assisi- took place on Wednesday October 3, 2007. This is a very special day for the Franciscan Community serving St. Stanislaus Parish. On this particular day, the Third Order of Secular Franciscans welcomed two new members who had just taken up their vows. Fr. Peter invited everyone to meet the new members over coffee and cake served in Kolbe Hall after Mass.

Pilgrim Statue of the Blessed Mother
The Pilgrim Statue of the Blessed Mother honored our church for one week. We welcomed the Blessed Mother on Saturday September 29, 2007 with a bilingual Mass. For seven days our parishioners had the opportunity to spend some time in the presence of Our Lady.

Animal Blessings

To celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, our parish hosted the annual blessing of animals on Saturday September 29, 2007 in the parish garden. Children from the Polish Language School and many other parishioners came with their favorite companions for this very special blessing.

Rockford Diocese Celebration
On September 23, 2007 at the NIU Newman Center thousands of faithful gathered from across the Rockford Diocese as Bishop Thomas G. Doran celebrated Mass for the opening of the Centennial Year. This special day was a reflection of our faith, a pilgrimage group of 50 parishioners traveled by bus to take part in this celebration. It was a great honor to our parish and our Polish culture when Anna Bratko read one of the petitions during the Centennial Mass in Polish.
