Fr. Mieczyslaw Wit was born January 1, 1969 in Dzików Stary, Podkarpackie Region, Poland. He attended elementary school in Horyniec Zdrój. From 1984 to 1988 he attended the Franciscan Minor Seminary (High School) in Legnica. After graduation he joined the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in 1989. After the one year of Novitiate he studied philosophy and theology at the Franciscan Major Seminary in Krakow. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 17, 1995.
After ordination he ministered as a parochial vicar in Piensk for one year. For the next four years Fr. Mietek continued graduate studies at the Catholic University of John Paul II in Lublin studying dogmatic theology.
In 2000 he worked for 6 months in the Franciscan Major Seminary in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2001 Fr. Mietek came to the USA and worked for a Polish radio station Father Justin Rosary Hour for the period of six years. Then he was transferred to Chicopee, MA, where he worked as a parochial vicar at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr for 13 years. From 2014 to 2016 Fr. Mietek ministered at Our Lady of the Cross Parish in Holyoke, MA.
Bishop David J. Malloy appointed him the Pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish at Rockford, IL beginning on July 1, 2016.
